dated September 17, 1953: Mrs. Pandit Elected U.N. Assembly President

The U.N. General Assembly, on the 15th, elected Mrs. Vijayalakshmi Pandit as President for its session. Thirty-seven countries voted for Mrs. Pandit, and 22 favoured Prince Wan of Thailand, the only other candidate. Mrs. Pandit succeeded Mr. Lester Pearson of Canada.
