Sorani defeats Patil

GURGAON SEPT. 16. Stefan Sorani of Australia defeated the third-seeded Siddharth Patil to move into the boys pre-quarterfinals of the Adidas group `IV' ITF junior tennis tournament at the National Tennis Academy (NTA) Complex here on Tuesday.

In another interesting match in the boys' section, qualifier Devender Singh Bhusaari defeated the eighth-seeded Vivek Shokeen 6-4, 7-5. He will be challenged by Yannick Nelord in the next round.

In the girls' section, wild card entrant Poojashree Venkatesh fought hard in beating Varsha Shivshankar 3-6, 6-4, 7-5. She will have the unenviable task of crossing swords with the second-seeded Vandana Murali.

In girls' doubles, the fourth-seeded Tanya Ahuja and Kanisha Mehta struggled past Jilke Nelord and Anukriti Prasad in three sets.

Doubles (pre-quarterfinals): Navdeep Singh and Tushar Liberhan bt Somdeep Appinenni and Kunal Pawa (Sin) 6-1, 6-2; J. Vishnu Vardhan and Wrik Ganguly bt Neil Rajpal (Can) and Rishu Yadav (Swe) 6-1, 6-4.

Girls (first round): Karina Ahuja bt Shivika Burman 7-5, 6-1; Ankita Bhambri bt Afreen Jahan 6-3, 6-0; Parul Goswami bt Sanjana Kapur 6-1, 7-5; Poojashree Venkatesh bt Varsha Shivshankar 3-6, 6-4, 7-5.
