Letters to the Editor
Sir, Apropos your editorial, "Banking turnaround" ( Sept. 11 ), the initial euphoria created by private banks has died down as they had to face a stiff competition from well-established public sector banks. The public sector banks are a formidable force. With market access to raise capital, these banks have gained confidence and got the best rating from the credit rating agencies. But they have to do more as the staff are not yet reconciled to the new reform agenda.
E. Sivasankaran,
Sir, Most of the public sector banks have been computerised and the staff have adjusted to the changing environment. Manning the counters in the computerised branches does not require any special skill. Of course, the future belongs to the youngsters until then the banks are safe in the hands of the existing staff.
P.S.V. Rajan,
