Befitting your stature

Sir, — The celebrations marking the 125 years of The Hindu were grand, befitting the great national newspaper. Old-timers like me were happy to see G. Kasturi, the person responsible for the mammoth growth of the paper. But while in the past your paper was maintaining a balanced, neutral stance, of late, there seems to be a swerve from neutrality. I feel you should do some soul-searching.

M.A. Vasudevan,
Chennai

Sir, — What better gift could we [the invitees] have got on the occasion than the pamphlet on Gandhiji and The Hindu!

Sir, — As a reader of over 40 years, I feel sad to see that of late, the paper has been giving publicity to news like birthday bash, weddings, break-ups, etc. You can instead concentrate on more news worthy items.

S.R. Radhakrishnan,
Coimbatore, T.N.

Sir, — I appeal to you to pay heed to the `Ram rekha' advice of the Prime Minister. I hope "hate-articles" (such as the one which ridiculed the Rig Veda) will not find place in The Hindu hereafter.

G. Ramanathan,
Chennai

Sir, — I was overjoyed to read about my late grandfather, S. Rangaswami, former Editor. I was particularly elated to read about his "bluntness" and "wielding a pen that scorched paper." His 93-year old only surviving daughter joins me in wishing you many more glorious years of journalism.

R. Rangappa,
Bangalore

Sir, — The Hindu's objectivity and impartiality help me shape my opinion. My love for the paper is reflected in the fact that I get it from Jaipur, as it is not available in my hometown.

Sunil Bhatt,
Karauli, Rajasthan

Sir, — I am an avid reader of The Hindu, which is available in Shimla. But in a few towns like Una and Dharamsala, I have had to place prior order with vendors, at least a week in advance.

K.L. Noatay,
Shimla
