UDHAGAMANDALAM: The World's first Electronic Tea Auction System (ETAS) at Coonoor under the auspices of the newly formed "TEASERVE", producers cooperative society will kick start its activities with a "charity sale" on September 24. Stating that everything possible was being done to successfully operate the system which was launched by the Chief Minister, Jayalalithaa, here last week, official sources said auctions through the new system would be held every Wednesday. The proceeds of the charity sale would be donated to the Chief Minister's "Annadhanam" scheme. For the first regular auctions to be held on October 1, the teas on offer should be sent to the warehouses authorised by the Teaserve by September 22. From September 17 mock trading would be conducted to familiarise all concerned with the tea auctions. Meanwhile, the Special Officer of Indcoserve (apex body of the Industrial Cooperative factories) T. Udhayachandran when contacted by The Hindu today said that for the first time Indcoserve would soon be exporting about 50 tonnes of CTC specific grades to Malaysia.
