Top Lashkar militant killed

By Our Staff Reporter

SRINAGAR SEPT. 16. A `divisional commander' of the Lashkar-e-Taiba, Abu Umar, was killed by the security forces in an encounter in south Kashmir today. Two militants and a jawan were killed and four BSF men were injured in the encounter.

Talking to The Hindu, the IG (Kashmir range), BSF, Vijay Raman, said the militant, who was a foreigner but claimed to be a Kashmiri, was active in the State for the last three years. "I do not think he was responsible for the Akshardam attack, but he might have had a key role in the Nadimarg incident."
