Gopal receives charge sheet

ERODE SEPT. 16. The Bhavani judicial magistrate, Vasanthaleela, today gave a 346-page charge sheet to R.R. Gopal, editor, Nakkheeran, and six others in connection with the 1998 murder of a teashop owner, Kandavel. The magistrate ordered them to appear before the court on September 19.

According to the police, the forest brigand, Veerappan, and his associates, murdered Kandavel of Eeratty village, inside the Burgur forest. The police registered case against Veerappan, Sethukuzhi Govindan, Rangsamy, Chandra Gowder and four Tamil Nadu Liberation Army activists. The case was later transferred to the CB-CID police, who, after investigation, included Mr. Gopal and the reporters of the Tamil magazine, Sivasubramanian, Jeeva Thangavel and four others as accused. Today Mr. Gopal, Mr. Sivasubramaniam, Mr. Jeeva Thangavel, Manimehalai and Akbar appeared before the magistrate.
