Violence in Bihar over scanty relief

MUNGER SEPT. 16. Irked by scanty relief, flood-hit people vented their anger on Government officials and vehicles at Naugarhi in Bihar's Munger district today, official sources said.

A mob at the Naugarhi relief centre overturned the official vehicles of the block development officer of Tarapur and the district agricultural officer of Munger protesting inadequacy of relief material and delay in its arrival.

A State Road Transport Corporation bus and a truck carrying relief material were also damaged by a stone-throwing crowd.

The District Magistrate, Gauta Goswami, said that after the initial restlessness leading to "mild violence", the situation was under control and the relief material was being distributed as usual. — PTI
