JD(S) pays tributes to Visvesvaraya

Bangalore Sept. 16. The Janata Dal (Secular) honoured three eminent engineers of the State, including S.G. Balekundry posthumously, on the occasion of the 145th birth anniversary of Sir M. Visvesvaraya.

Inaugurating the celebrations, the JD(S) State unit President, Siddaramaiah, said Visvesvaraya had not only been an engineer but also an able administrator. Visvesvaraya and Balekundry had great foresight and the irrigation projects built by them were still in good shape. Balekundry also struggled hard to get the State its due of the Cauvery waters, he said.

Apart from the award to Balekundry, which was received by his wife, Kamala, Mr. Thimmaiah, who had served in the Public Works Department, and Mr. Madaiah, who had served in the Karnataka Electricity Board, were honoured in recognition of their service. All of them were presented a shawl and a memento.

The Chairman of the JD(S) Parliamentary Board, D. Manjunath, the Secretary-General of the party, C. Narayanaswamy, and the former Chairman of the Karnataka State Tourism Development Corporation, D.S. Srikantamurthy, spoke.
