Cong. workers attack AIPJD leader

By Our Staff Correspondent

DAVANGERE SEPT. 16. The Congress workers allegedly attacked the All India Progress Janata Dal leader, Suresh Gandagali, in front of the Extension Police Station here on Tuesday.

It is said that the Congress workers, led by Dinesh K. Shetty and Belludi Shankar, who seemed to have been upset over the proposed procession of the All India Progress Janata Dal on Wednesday against the move to name the Kundawada Tank after the district in-charge Minister, S.S. Mallikarjun, entered into an altercation with Mr. Gandagali.

Mr. Shetty and Mr. Shankar reportedly questioned Mr. Gandagali what was wrong in naming the tank after the Minister. They also asked him how his party could plan to burn an effigy of the Minister and attacked Mr. Suresh. The incident took place when Mr. Suresh was to go to the police station to seek permission for the procession. The Congress workers were on their way back after holding a press conference at the Inspection Bungalow.

The All India Progressive Janata Dal workers, who were with Mr. Suresh, were taken aback by the turn of events and rushed towards the Congress workers. A possible clash between the two party workers was averted by the intervention of police. The All India Progressive Janata Dal has filed a complaint against Mr. Shetty, Mr. Shankar and 40 others.

Meanwhile, the All India Progressive Janata Dal is firm on its decision to take out a procession in protest against the decision of the Municipal Council.
