Six of family found dead

By Our Staff Reporter

CHENNAI SEPT. 16. Six members of a family, five of them women, were found dead in their house on Vinayakam Street at Mandaveli late last night. Police identified the deceased as Rojammal (60), Sunderrajan (45), Meena, Shobhana (5), Shanthi, (48) and Latha (20).

The incident came to light when Raju, the Rojammal's grandson returned home from an STD booth at Foreshore Estate, where he was working. As there was no response to his calls, Raju managed to break open the door with the help of Ramalingam, Meena's husband. They found the bodies, which were charred beyond recognition. Raju was the son of Subramani, a real estate dealer who died two years ago. According to personnel at the Abhiramapuram police station, where a case has been registered, the family had been pushed to financial problem ever since the death of Subramani.

The family was reportedly not in a position to pay the monthly rent and they were eking out to a living from the meagre earnings of Raju, whose monthly salary was less than Rs. 2,000. The bodies were taken to the Royapettah GH for post-mortem.
