Andhra Pradesh-Hyderabad
By T. Lalith Singh
But unfortunately, the civic infrastructure has not been kept up with the changing profile of the place. That is Borabanda for you, the sprawling residential area off the Mumbai Highway at Erragadda. The route leading to Borabanda itself is a major irritant filled as it is with huge potholes, especially in front of the BOC Gases Company. "It is in a deplorable condition. The traffic on this road has increased manifold, but it has turned from bad to worse with black topping not being properly done,'' says S. Raghavan, a resident of Motinagar. This also happens to be the intersection leading to all colonies dotting Borabanda -- Panduranga Nagar, Motinagar and its extension, Kabirnagar, Swarajnagar, V.R.R. Puram and so on. "Earlier, the condition was not that bad. Some agency dug it up and did not bother to restore it,'' charges Yaseen Ahmed of Swarajnagar. Try the lane leading to V.R.R. Puram. There is no cement or bitumen for the entire stretch and any vehicle user has to rise and fall with the mounds of earth that is called a road. "We have been promised of a good road, but look what has been given to us,'' bemoans Anjaneyulu, a resident. While the main thoroughfare from Motinagar to Borabanda has been widened and laid neatly, the end point near the bus stop calls for some attention. Filled with potholes and packed with four wheelers, two-wheelers and a horde of autorickshaws, nightmarish experience awaits drivers traversing here. During peak hours, the junction brims with people and vehicles, and lack of planned parking only adds to the confusion. Buses could be found parked all over blocking roads leading to different colonies. ``To control autos and the chaotic traffic, we need traffic cops to be posted here and also the Motinagar chowrastha,'' says Ashraf Jani of Motinagar.
