Girl ends life after friend's suicide

BANGALORE Sept. 16. Depressed by her friend's suicide, a 14-year-old schoolgirl, Subhashini, reportedly committed suicide at her house on Muneeswara Temple Street in Frazer Town on Monday. She was a ninth standard student in Goodwill School.

At 4.30 p.m. on Monday, Subhashini's mother, who is employed in a private factory, made a phone call to her house. As her daughter did not attend the call, she alerted her husband, Radhakrishna, and asked him to check. Mr. Radhakrishna, who is employed at the Indian Institute of Science, rushed home to find his daughter's body hanging from the ceiling of the house, according to police.

Police said Subhashini was upset over her friend's death a few days ago. A case of unnatural death has been registered at the Frazer Town police station.

Sentenced for murder

The 24th Sessions Court has convicted Lakshmeesha (22) of Vijayanagar for murdering his mother over a property dispute, and sentenced him to life imprisonment. He has also been ordered to pay a penalty of Rs. 2,500.

The court found that he had stabbed his mother, Thimmamma (45), to death after a quarrel over property.

Man arrested

A man, who was allegedly in possession of an imported revolver illegally, was arrested by Upparpet police. The name of the accused was given as Sharad Mohan (43) of 27th Main, 9th Block, Jayanagar. Police alleged that he was in possession of the revolver when he was arrested near the scooter park at the KSRTC bus stand on Monday afternoon.

Men held on murder charge

Mahadevapura police have arrested three persons on the charge of murdering Prakash Reddy (46).

Police said the accused, M. Muniraju, K. Muiraja, and Suresh of Kaggadasapura, allegedly killed Reddy by hitting him with iron rods in a drunken brawl, and went to Hindupur in Andhra Pradesh.

Dorai (35) of Magadi Road has been arrested in connection with the murder of Arogyaraj (30) of Goripalya in K.P. Agrahara police limits.

According to police, Dorai was allegedly involved in burglary cases reported from Airport and K.G. Halli police limits. They said they recovered a television set, a VCD, a motorcycle, a computer, a mobile phone, and jewellery from him.

Cell phones seized

Upparpet police have arrested a shopkeeper from National Market, Babu alias Sameer, on charges of selling stolen mobile phones. As many as 65 mobile phones of different brands, in all worth about Rs. 1.5 lakh, were seized from him.

Police said the accused was earlier arrested twice on charges of buying stolen mobile phones.

Burglary charges

Venkatesh (30) of Madura in Doddaballapur taluk of Bangalore Rural District, was arrested on Saturday on charges of stealing ornaments from temples and churches. Goods worth Rs. 10,000, including a pump set, a silver crown, bells, brass vessels, a hundi, a pushcart, and copper vessels were recovered from him, police say.

They say the accused was allegedly involved in three cases of temple thefts in Yelahanka, one case in Yelahanka Satellite Town Police Station limits, and two cases in Sanjaynagar.

Yelahanka police arrested Venkatesh when they found him in suspicious circumstances. He has been remanded in judicial custody.
