Govt. not to appeal SC order on disinvestment

NEW DELHI SEPT. 17. The Attorney-General, Soli Sorabjee, today said that the Government would not appeal against the Supreme Court order staying the disinvestment of HPCL and BPCL but indicated that it could seek a review of the ruling.

"There cannot be any appeal against the Supreme Court verdict... The government can, however, seek a review," he said in an interview to a TV channel. He added that at this stage, he was not in a position to say what the Government would do in the matter. Dismissing suggestions that he had led the Government down the "garden path" in the matter of disinvestment of the two public sector oil companies, he said he had only given his opinion on the basis of the interpretation of various acts. "After all, one cannot be dogmatic in his approach," he added.
