Bank rewards police

MANGALORE SEPT. 18. The South Canara District Central Cooperative Bank presented Rs. 1.30 lakh, the reward it had announced, to the police for the recovery of jewellery stolen from the bank. Robbers had targeted the bank's branch at Katipalla in Suratkal police station limits in January. At a simple function held in the office of the Superintendent of Police here on Thursday, the chairman of the bank, M.N. Rajendra Kumar, expressed his thanks to the police for catching the culprits from whom 95 per cent of the stolen jewellery valued at Rs. 2.2 crore was recovered. Mr. Kumar said the fact that the case was solved in short order highlighted the efficiency of the police force. The Superintendent of Police, Seemanth Kumar Singh, said of the reward, Rs. 25,000 would go the welfare fund of the district police.
