Casual round of admissions to begin on Monday

BANGALORE Sept. 18. The State Government has extended the time for students to join their chosen professional colleges to September 21.

However, more time may be given depending on the order of the High Court of Karnataka, which is expected on Friday.

Sources in the Education Department said the time could be extended till September 30.

The Minister for Higher Education and Science and Technology, G. Parameshwar, on Thursday said students could join their respective colleges by September 21.

But this could change after the court's verdict.

Meanwhile, 3,395 engineering seats remained vacant at the end of the admission round of the engineering seat selection process for Karnataka quota candidates, which concluded at the Common Entrance Test (CET) Cell on Thursday.

The casual vacancy round of the seat selection process will begin on September 22 as per the notified schedule.

According to the schedule, the casual vacancy round for Special Categories will be held on September 22, for Karnataka Medical/Dental/ISM and H courses from September 23 to 27, for Non-Karnataka Medical/Dental courses on October 8, for Karnataka engineering from September 29 to October 17, and for Non-Karnataka engineering courses on October 10 and 11.

There will be no seat selection process on September 19, 20, and 21, according to a CET Cell press release.

The number of unfilled engineering seats in various streams is as follows:

Electronics 134; Computers 727; Mechanical 459; Electrical 226; Civil 223; Industrial Production 240; Instrument Technology 105; Architecture 43; Industrial Engineering and Management 1; Automobile 67; Chemical 55; Telecommunication 65; Med. Elect 32; Textiles 34; Biotechnology 5; Transport 0; Mining 17; Ceramics 17; Silk Technology 3; Bio Medical 10; Environmental 14; Information Science 914; Polymer Technology 2; Manufacturing Science 1; and Printing Technology 1.

The number of unfilled seats under various categories is as follows: Category 1G 0; 1K 0; 1R 8; 2AG 2; 2AK 0; 2AR 66; 2BG 0; 2BK 0; 2BR 26; 3AG 0; 3AK 0; 3AR 5; 3BG 0; 3BK 0; 3BR 6; GM 0; GMK 0; GMR 15; KAR 3103; SCG 0; SCK 0; SCR 145; STG 0; STK 0; and STR 19.
