Justice done

Sir, — This refers to the editorial "Justice done" ( Sept. 17 ). The fact that those responsible for the gruesome killing of Graham Staines and his two sons have been brought to book brings solace. The CBI's adept handling of the case is laudable.

S. Jeelan,
Anantapur, A.P.

Sir, — You have correctly pointed out that Gladys Staines demonstrated a nobility of spirit by forgiving the killers of her husband and sons. As a true Christian, she has practised what she preaches.

G. Purushothaman,
Tirunelveli, T.N.

Sir, — While the expression of disappointment at the non-implication of the Bajrang Dal in the Staines killing is understandable, your statement that there seemed to be an attempt to inject partisan politics into the investigation is deplorable. At the time of the incident, and initial stages of investigation, Orissa was under the Congress rule. And had there been injection of partisan politics in the investigation, it would not have resulted in the free and fair investigation by the CBI.

D. Natarajan,
Chennai
