Thank you

Sir, — I cannot claim, like many others, of being a long-time reader of The Hindu as I am only 20 years old. My father, an army officer who died in Kashmir a few months ago, introduced me to it. When his luggage came home, I found that it contained cuttings of your religion column. The orderly who accompanied the baggage told me that my father had cut them out for me to read. Thank you for providing such a trustworthy paper.

Sukum Sekhar,
Thiruvananthapuram

Sir, — In his inaugural address at The Hindu's 125th anniversary celebrations , the Prime Minister said that a newspaper should be "a voice of the voiceless" and "the hope of the hopeless." But the pity is that our rulers give scant respect to reports regarding the plight of the hopeless and the voiceless. Nor does a majority of them show any tolerance for media reports.

T.V. Ramakrishnan Potti,

Sir, — Accept my congratulations for bringing out the wonderful commemorative supplement (Sept. 13). The photos moved me, particularly the one with the Mahatma standing tall on the dais.

Sir, — Though we get The Hindu only in the evening, we wait for it eagerly. The supplement brought out on the occasion was superb.

Sir, — Your courageous admission that "it would be unhistorical for any institution to claim that there has been a total and undeviating adherence to all these principles all the time" in "Yesterday, today, tomorrow" (Sept. 13) establishes that the spirit of Kasturi Ranga Iyengar is still alive and vibrant.

Cuddalore, T.N.

Sir, — An obstinate passion towards periodical BJP-bashing and an eagerness to project yourselves as a crusader of secularism are likely to boomerang on your edifice. At times, you forget that you are very old and behave like an angry, young paper.

M.D.D.Nair,

Vijayawada, A.P.
