NEW DELHI SEPT. 18. India and Japan today began the fourth joint Coast Guard series of maritime search and rescue and anti-piracy exercises off the Kobe Coast in Japan.

The Mumbai-based Coast Guard vessel, CG Sangram with a helicopter, which reached the Kobe port two days back, is taking part in the exercise with eight Japanese vessels and two helicopters. The Coast Guard chief, Suresh Mehta, is at hand to oversee the exercise that seeks to demonstrate joint working between the two maritime forces across the oceans to ensure safety of life at sea and keep a close watch on pirates, says an official news release.
