Solution to tangle over 270 medical seats likely soon, says official

By Our Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD Sept. 18. The Additional Director of Medical Education, G. Srinath, hoped that the controversy surrounding the 270 medical seats, for which the Medical Council of India (MCI) has denied permission, would soon be cleared with the Government providing all the facilities as stipulated by the MCI.

He said that an exercise is on to give promotions to doctors and fill up the vacant professors' posts as required by the MCI. Moreover, the Supreme Court, where the matter is lying, is likely to give its decision on Thursday. Dr. Srinath was speaking at the release of a book on medical colleges and medical counselling here on Thursday.

Dr. Srinath said that private medical colleges and the teaching hospitals that have come up along with them have helped in providing better medical facilities to the people in the districts. He said all the districts, except Adilabad, Cuddapah, Prakasam and Srikakulam have excellent medical facilities with the teaching hospitals coming up. The NTR Health University Registrar, S. Narasimha Reddy, released the book that contains the details of medical counselling apart from medical colleges and the facilities available in them. The book is published by www.medistudies.com, a medical education portal. Dr. Reddy said that all arrangements have been made for the medical counselling starting from Friday. Admissions would be completed by the end of this month as per the Supreme Court directions.

C.V. Sivaprasada Rao, editor of the book, said that it would be of immense help to the students seeking to gain admission to medical colleges. Counselling instructions, category and college wise seat distribution as per the existing system have been included apart from details of previous year's counselling details so as to provide a complete picture of their chances. The book also carries exhaustive information on the number of medical and dental colleges in the country along with complete details like the number of seats available in each stream, recognition, governing body and telephone numbers.
