Even the emergency services remained affected as majority of the functions had been carried out by the junior doctors. The condition in the PMCH was worst hit from the second half to morning hours till the arrival of the senior doctors to the hospital. The striking doctors said that they were working in miserable conditions and had to discharge their duties amidst numerous constraints. The doctors also lamented at the poor infrastructure in the hospital, saying they there was dearth of equipment and instead of soap they were supplied with inferior quality of washing powder. They also raised the issue of security threats by the musclemen of some of the patients and said they were discharging their duties under severe mental pressure in such circumstances. The night duty was totally unsafe. Meanwhile, PMCH Superintendent A P Singh said the junior doctors were striking in protest against the misbehaviour by the attendants of one of the patients with a female doctor. He said such incidents had been reported earlier also on several occasions. A committee had been constituted to handle such situation. The multi-pronged security system agreement, which was made between the administration of the PMCH and that of the local administration, had yet not been implemented. Under the agreement besides two mobile units, static force security personnel had to be deployed in all departments of the PMCH. -- UNI
