MCH richer by Crisil awards

HYDERABAD Sept. 18. The Municipal Corporation of Hyderabad has bagged Crisil awards for financial management, solid waste management and accounting reforms for 2003 at a special function in Mumbai on Thursday.

The Chief Minister, N. Chandrababu Naidu, gave away the prizes for the best performing

urban local bodies in the country while the Mayor, T. Krishna Reddy, received the awards on behalf of the MCH. The Vijayawada Municipal Corporation received the first prize for e-governance initiatives while the Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation bagged the second prize in the same category.

Appreciating the Crisil's initiative, Mr. Naidu said the awards would foster healthy competition among urban bodies and lead to offering of quality service to citizens. He said awards would be introduced in the State for performing corporations, municipalities and other departments, a press release said here.

The Chief Minister made a presentation of reforms taken up by his Government. He pointed out that the urban local bodies were facing various challenges as they were expected to be accountable and responsible to the needs of people. The managing director and CEO of Crisil, R. Ravi Mohan, said 90 entries had been received. A seven-member expert panel adjudged the winners. The Ministers -- Y. Ramakrishudu and K. Vidyadhara Rao -- were present.
