Agarwal murder mystery solved

By Our Staff Reporter

Hyderabad Sept. 18. The mystery behind the sensational killing of businessman, Suneel Agarwal, was solved on Thursday by the Rajendranagar police with the arrest of three persons.

The Cyberabad Police Commissioner, M. Mahender Reddy, told a press conference here that one of the three alleged killers, Md. Ibrahim (28), was among the arrested. The other two -- Shaikh Sharafath Ali Khan (62), father-in-law of Ibrahim, and Khaizar Ali Khan (28) - have been charged with aiding and abetting Ibrahim in many property offences. Two others charged with involvement in the murder -- Aslam and Syed Sajjad -- are still at large.

A native of Danapur in L.B. Nagar, Ibrahim allegedly began committing offences at the age of 18 years. He, along with other associates, was charged with a murder in the Saroornagar police station area and was arrested. In jail, he met Sharafath who was remanded in judicial custody in a robbery case. After coming out on bail, Sharafath married his daughter to Ibrahim.

Later, they formed a gang with Khaja Wahabuddin and Md. Amjad. The gang allegedly snatched away chains in seven cases, committed 11 robberies and lifted two vehicles in various parts of the State. After the arrest of Wahabuddin and Amjad in June 2002 by sleuths of the Central Crime Station, Ibrahim fled to Mumbai along with Sharafath. The duo, along with Aslam, went to Jhansi in Uttar Pradesh and bought two-country made revolvers and one air pistol.

They came to the city on July 15, 2003, and rented a house at Asadbabanagar in Kishanbagh. Ibrahim renewed his old contacts and met Syed Sajjad of Amberpet. They lifted two vehicles from the Goshamahal area and one at Baghlingampally. On August 5, Ibrahim, Sajjad and Aslam set out on a scooter to commit a property offence. Around 9.30 p.m., they spotted Agarwal travelling in a car at Hyderguda. Hoping that he would be carrying money, the trio followed him till his house.

As soon as Agarwal stepped out of the vehicle, Akbar and Aslam tried to snatch the briefcase from him. A scuffle ensued. Members of the trader's family came out from the house when he raised an alarm as the trio threatened him with a knife. "Ibrahim panicked when the family members came out and fired at Agarwal from a close range," the Mr. Mahender Reddy said.

Later, the trio fled on the scooter. They learnt the victim was a businessman through media the next day. While Aslam and Sajjad left the city, Ibrahim and Sharafat stayed put. The duo made a vain bid to snatch a chain on August 9 after running out of money and went underground after being chased by people at Rajendranagar. The police picked up Ibrahim, Khaizar and Sharafath this morning.
