Letters to the Editor
Sir, My association with your newspaper dates back to 1936. My grandfather, Venkoba Rao, a government head-clerk, used to write regularly to The Hindu, drawing attention to the irregularities in the revenue department. When the British Government came to know of it, it hastily removed him from service. But he was reinstated soon by the efforts of the entire Madras Press, notably, The Hindu.
S.K. Rao,
Sir, I learnt more from your special supplement (Sept. 13) about the paper than I did during my 60 years of reading The Hindu. Though I have felt anguished at times over certain stands you have taken, a paper with such glorious tradition has a right to mould public opinion even if it means going against the current of existing opinion and the views of its readers.
J. Rajagopalachari,
Sir, When it comes to impartial reporting, honest editorial writing and other thought provoking articles, The Hindu is one of the best among Indian and international news magazines.
Srihari,
Sir, I am a retired professor of English. The Governor of Tamil Nadu, P.S. Rammohan Rao, was quite correct in asking you to bring out a woman's supplement on September 13.
Padma Srinivasan,
Sir, The Hindu deserves appreciation because it has consistently held that the politics of hate, bigotry, communalism and chauvinism will lead to a vicious cycle of violence, tension and instability.
Mohammad Shamimul Islam,
