Given their large sizes the department is facing difficulties to contain timber smuggling, Sofi said addressing a meeting of forest officers convened to review enumeration of fallen trees. He asked principal chief conservator forests to start the preliminary survey in this regard and furnish a proposal to be submitted for cabinet approval. Pointing out that there were less takers for C and B class timber in concessional zones, the minister directed the authorities to sell only a class timber in these areas. This, he said, will help in reducing the sustenance of green felling by the people living nearer to forests. -- PTI
