OIC invites Geelani

SRINGAR SEPT. 19. The Organisation of Islamic Conference has invited Syed Ali Shah Geelani, chairman of the breakaway Hurriyat Conference, to attend a meeting of Foreign Ministers of Islamic countries in New York this month-end.

In a communication to the Jamaat-i-Islami leader, the OIC functionary, Abdul Ahad-al-Aziz addressed Mr. Geelani as chairman of the Hurriyat Conference and invited him for the meeting, sources close to Mr. Geelani said. The invitation is considered a jolt to the Ansari-led faction of the separatist alliance as Hurriyat enjoys status of an observer in OIC.
