Boost industrialisation in villages: Elumalai

Pondicherry Sept. 19 . The Local Administration Minister, A. Elumalai, has called upon the National Small Industries Development Corporation to promote industrial growth in rural areas to generate employment.

Presiding over the inauguration of the workshop cum training programme for technology upgradation for furniture manufacturers (both wooden and steel) organised by the NSIC here today, he said instead of promoting industrial activities in urban areas the Corporation should concentrate in villages so that the problem of unemployment could be solved.

The Agriculture Minister, A. Namassivayam, who inaugurated the training programme said that the Administration had taken a firm decision not to permit hereafter any industries that damaged the environment, depleted sub soil water sources and caused threat to the ecological balance.

The government whip, P. Rajavelu, also spoke.

S.Ghosal, the Centre Head of National Institute of Design, Bangalore said that his institute was coordinating with the corporation to provide training on innovative design of both steel and wood based furniture here.
