Andhra Pradesh-Hyderabad
By T. Lalith Singh
As part of the much-awaited `Rationalisation of House Numbering System', the MCH is assigning different colours to different localities along with unique, simple and convenient number to houses for easy identification of an address. The pilot project, to be extended to the entire city in phases, has already been taken up in Ward Nos. 4 and 5. While doing away with highly confusing old format that followed the ward number, block number along with the house number, the new rationalised system has just the house number and the street number along with name of the locality. Thus H.No. 2-3-42/C/51/A/1/B of Amberpet is now H. No. 715, Street No. 1, Amberpet! House numbers and street numbers are being displayed in different colours for different localities. "This helps in easy recognition of localities and in locating a particular address," says Purushotham Reddy, Director (House Number). For signboards too the civic body has gone for different geometric patterns. A round shape board is for house and square one for the street. The pilot project, work is in progress in the colonies of Hill Fort, will cover 14 localities comprising 29,503 houses. "We are fixing numbers on each house and Rs. 25 will be collected along with the property tax," says Mr. Reddy. Apart from individual numbers, almost 250 street signboards and 152 main road signboards are being erected. Maps showing detailed plan of the entire locality is also being put at all entry points. The MCH has also started work on 16 localities of Ward I stretching from Kavadiguda to Vidyanagar, covering 42,800 houses for the next phase. For purpose of assigning new numbers, teams compile a profile of each locality complete with structural details of each house, its usage - residential or commercial -- parks, hospitals and even graveyards located there.
