M.P. Adivasi body seeks transfer of Collector

By Our Staff Correspondent

BHOPAL SEPT. 20. The Adivasi Mukti Sangathan (AMS), an activist group working for the cause of the tribals in the western parts of Madhya Pradesh, has alleged massive corruption in the drought relief works in Badwani district and sought immediate transfer of the District Collector in view of the probe he is facing under the Supreme Court guidelines.

The demand for the Badwani District Collector's immediate transfer was made at a press conference here today by Vijay Bhai of the AMS and Vikram Patel, vice-chairman of the Sendhwa Janapad Panchayat. Briefing newsmen, Mr. Bhai cited a Supreme Court order of May 8 this year regarding the implementation of the Sampoorna Gramin Rojgar Yojna (SGRY) which says that the gram sabhas (village general bodies) are entitled to conduct a social audit into all food/employment schemes and to report all instances of misuse of funds to the implementing authorities, who shall, on receipt of such complaints, investigate and take appropriate action in accordance with law.
