Nagaur to get water from IG Canal

By Our Special Correspondent

JAIPUR SEP. 20. The water from the Indira Gandhi (IG)Canal would be made available to the western Rajasthan district of Nagaur in the near future. The State Public Health and Engineering Department (PHED) had started working on a project to integrate Nagaur, the only western Rajasthan district hitherto devoid of the Himalayan waters, into the Indira Gandhi Canal system.

The decision taken by the Chief Minister, Ashok Gehlot, follows a directive from the Congress president, Sonia Gandhi, on making available the canal water to Nagaur.

Later addressing a public meeting, Ms. Gandhi had told Mr. Gehlot to consider the feasibility of providing the waters of the Indira Gandhi Canal to the people of Nagaur as well.
