Finland backs India on Security Council seat

By Our Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI SEPT. 20. The Lok Sabha Speaker, Manohar Joshi, who is currently in Helsinki, has said that Finland was in favour of a permanent seat for India in the United Nations Security Council.

A press release issued today by the Lok Sabha secretariat said Mr. Joshi met the President of the Finnish Parliament, P. Lipponen, on Friday. During the meeting, Mr. Lipponen was reported as saying that India's claim for a permanent seat on the Security Council was "absolutely legitimate".

They talked about expansion of commercial relations between the two countries. Mr. Lipponen requested Mr. Joshi to lead an all-party parliamentary delegation to Finland some time early next year and Mr. Joshi also extended an invitation to Mr. Lipponen to visit India.
