The district Superintendent of Police, Nalin Prabhat, said they had information that the naxals had been moving in Chelpur, Kompally, Gandrapally, Dubbapally and surrounding villages for the past one week. By sending their couriers to the Bhupalpally, naxals had been summoning contractors and extorting money from them. A special police team, which launched combing operations, spotted five persons moving on two motorcycles near Chelpur. When the police asked them to stop, three of them alighted from the vehicles and started firing at the police. In the exchange of fire that lasted about 20 minutes, three naxals died while two others managed to escape on motorcycles. Police are yet to identify the slain naxals and to which group they belonged. The special team recovered a .38 mm revolver, .8 mm pistol and one coupling bomb from the spot. Mr. Nalin Prabhat reiterated that the police would not keep silent if the naxal groups resorted to extortions terrorising public. He appealed to naxals to lay down their arms and join the mainstream.
