Police to move SC against bail for Gopal

By Our Special Correspondent

CHENNAI SEPT. 20. The police are likely to file an appeal before the Supreme Court challenging yesterday's Madras High Court order granting bail to R. R. Gopal, editor, Nakkheeran, in a case registered under the Prevention of Terrorism Act.

A Division Bench granted conditional bail to the journalist after it found that documents furnished by the prosecution on the type of weapon and ammunition allegedly recovered from him were contradictory.

Following the ruling, a team of officials of CB-CID, investigating agency, today left for Delhi to approach the apex court.

In all probability, the appeal would be filed on Monday, said a senior police officer.

Mr.Gopal, who is now in the central prison, Chennai, will be released after he furnishes sureties to the satisfaction of the additional chief metropolitan magistrate, Egmore, which process is possible at the earliest only on Monday.
