In a statement released at the Villupuram party conference, he said Mr. Ganesan had obviously termed the DMK coming to power ``unfortunate". He would not mind anybody calling him an atheist, because the then Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, in his autobiography, had portrayed himself as an atheist. Mr. Ganesan, who, in his Chennai speech, had undoubtedly made a reference to the DMK rule, now went back on his words, saying he did not mention the DMK and that he made a general observation attributing the present state of affairs to atheists coming to power. If Mr. Ganesan did not refer to the DMK period, he should clarify whose rule did he meant, said Mr. Karunanidhi.
