Among the dignitaries expected for the 50th birthday celebrations of Mata Amrithanandamayi are Cabinet Ministers from Malaysia, Kenya and Mauritius, the former U.S. senator, Larry Pressler, the veteran actor, Amithabh Bachchan, the Holywood artiste, Linda Evans, the daughter of Martin Luther King Jr, Yolanda King, and the Chief Ministers and Governors of a few States. There will be traditional music and dance performances from Peru, Australia, North America, Ireland, Spain, Japan, Cameroon, Ivory Coast and Malaysia. Artistes such as Hariprasad Chaurasia, L. Subramaniam, Padma Subramaniam, Jagjit Singh, P. Jayachandran, Kavitha Subramaniam and Sankar Mahadevan will perform during the four-day function. The film actresses, Divya Unni, Kavya Madhavan, Navya Nair and Suja Karthika, too will take part in the cultural events. The Deputy Prime Minister, L.K. Advani, is scheduled to inaugurate the event at the Jawaharlal Nehru International Stadium at Kaloor on September 24. The high-level chief executive officers' (CEO) meet will be inaugurated by the Mata at the Amritha Institute of Medical Sciences, Edapally on September 26. The President, A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, will preside over the function. Mr. Kalam and the Mata will also address a one-lakh strong group of youth from different countries at the international stadium. Among the CEOs expected for the function are Sabeer Bhatia, founder of Hotmail, Mukesh Ambani, chairman of Reliance, Sunil B. Mittal, chairman of Bharti Enterprises, S.P. Hinduja and S. Ramadorai of TCS. Elaborate arrangements have been made for mediapersons from across the globe who would be covering the event. A huge media centre will be opened at the venue. The Vice-President, Bhairon Singh Shekhawat, will deliver the valedictory address on September 27.
