The police said Mehboob Ali had allegedly poured kerosene on Mubin Taj (30) and set her on fire following a quarrel in Bande Gudisalu area of Valmikinagar. It is said that he used to come home drunk which was not to the liking of Mubin Taj. This was the reason for their quarrel every day, it is said. The Chamarajapet police had admitted Mubin Taj, who was in a serious condition, to Victoria hospital. They had registered a case of attempt to murder and had arrested Mehboob Ali. The case has now been converted into that of murder, the police said. The couple have two children, the police said.
Jewellery stolen
A case of burglary has been reported in R.T. Nagar in which cash and jewellery worth Rs. 6 lakh were taken away. The police said Nooruddin Khan, a businessman in first block, R.T. Nagar, had gone with his family to Kolar. When he returned today, he found the front door had been broken open. On checking, he found that cash and gold jewellery, worth Rs. 6 lakh were missing. The valuables had been kept in a cupboard, the police said. Mr. Khan has lodged a complaint with the R.T. Nagar police.
Three arrested
The Siddapur police arrested three persons who had allegedly abducted school and college students, taken them to an isolated place, and robbed them. They recovered three mobile phones, gold chains, and gold rings, valued at Rs. 50,000. With the arrest of Rizvan Pasha (19), Ramesh (20), of Kanakanapalya and Jayanagar respectively, and Shivakumar (21) of Byrasandra, the Siddapur police have claimed to have solved four cases of robbery in Tilaknagar and Siddapur police station limits.
Nineteen cases solved
The Wilson Garden police solved 19 cases of robbery with the arrest of Tulasiraj (30) of 10th Cross, Wilson Garden. He used to allegedly lure small children playing in front of their houses by offering chocolates and escape with their ornaments. Gold ornaments worth Rs. 75,000 were recovered from them.
