MMTS phase-II on schedule: Dattatreya

From Our Staff Reporter

Hyderabad Sept. 20. The second phase of the MMTS project between Secunderabad and Falaknuma will go on stream as per schedule on November 1. Work on the Rs. 70-crore project covering a distance of 14.5 km will be completed soon, said the Union Minister of State for Urban Development, Bandaru Dattatreya, after inspection of the works on Saturday.

Mr. Dattatreya, who travelled in a train from Kachiguda to Falaknuma, expressed satisfaction at the pace of work. He got down at every station en route and saw the upgradation works going on. He went round the newly built booking offices at Malakpet and Falaknuma. The SCR GM, T. Stanley Babu, the DRM, Ranjit Khosla, and other senior officials accompanied him.

Mr. Dattatreya later told presspersons that six ROBs would be built at Uppuguda, Dabeerpura and Borabanda. Referring to the Metro Rail project, he said the Government had sanctioned Rs. 2.36 lakhs for preparation of the report. The L&T Ramboll was entrusted with the job of suggesting design for the civil work. The Rs. 4150-crore project would be taken up in three stages connecting Miyapur-Osmania Medical College, OMC-Chaitanyapuri and Secunderabad-Falaknuma. Apart from Hyderabad, the Metro Rail project was also proposed for Bangalore, Chennai and Ahmedabad in view of the rapidly growing urban agglomerations in the country.
