Rupee scales new high

MUMBAI SEPT. 22. Breaching the key resistance level, the rupee surged by over 18 paise to close at a new ten-day high of 45.75/76 a dollar today, propelled by robust trade and capital inflows accumulated over the weekend and a distinctly weak dollar against major global currencies.

Having pierced through the 45.80 a dollar barrier, the rupee will now seek to better the 45.7050/7150 closing quote logged on September 11 on the back of strong dollar inflows and a lingering weak dollar overseas. Rupee sentiment turned upbeat, following the central bank's assurance that it would take care of (RIBs) redemption pressures.
