Arun Jaitley to inaugurate UPASI conference

UDHAGAMANDALAM SEPT. 22. The inaugural session of the 110th annual conference of the United Planters Association of Southern India (UPASI) which was originally scheduled to commence at 11 a.m. on September 27 at Glenview in Coonoor will now take place at 2.30 p.m. to suit the convenience of the chief guest, the Union Minister for Law and Justice and Commerce and Industry, Arun Jaitley.

Stating this in a press note issued here today, the Secretary General of UPASI, Ullas Menon, said among the participants would be the Union Minister of State for Commerce and Industry, Vidyasagar Rao, and the Additional Secretary, Union Ministry of Commerce, L. V. Saptharishi. The Chairman of the Pakistan Tea Association, Saeed Ahmed Khawaja, will lead a 17-member delegation. Having just returned from Cancun, after forcefully presenting the developing nations' case, Mr. Jaitley was expected to throw light on what the immediate future holds for plantations. This year there would be a visiting delegation from the North Indian tea industry. The industrial exhibition, being organised as part of the conference, will open on September 26.
