'Expedite work on Ellapillaichavady children hospital'

Pondicherry Sept. 22. The Pondicherry-based Vaanchinathan Mandram has called upon the administration to expedite construction of a women and children hospital at Ellapillaichavady foundation of which was laid in February 2001 by the then Lt. Governor, Rajani Rai.

A resolution adopted at the executive committee on Sunday said the 8.2- hectare site for the project was acquired by the Government and with the rise in turnout of patients at the maternity hospital in the town there was a need to have a sprawling campus to look after the health care of women and children.

B. Balagangadharan, president, said the meeting wanted garbage accumulated in some areas of Ellaipillaichavady removed regularly.

The Mandram proposed to hold special programmes as a tribute to the former Health Minister and freedom fighter, V. Subbiah, on his 10th death anniversary on October 12.
