"Irrespective of the action the Central Bureau of Investigation and the court takes against Mr. Tripathi, the Samajwadi Party will not expel or suspend him," Mr. Yadav told reporters here. Mr. Tripathi had to "suffer a lot" in the recent past and still gave a helping hand to the Samajwadi Party in "saving the State", Mr. Yadav said. He will continue to be a Samajwadi Party legislator, he added. Mr. Tripathi was arrested by the CBI on Sunday night in Lucknow for his involvement in the murder of 24-year-old poetess, Madumita Shukla, on May 9. He was a BSP legislator till he joined the Samajwadi Party after the fall of the Mayawati Government.
