Stone laid for Haj House

JAIPUR SEPT. 22. The Rajasthan Chief Minister, Ashok Gehlot, on Sunday laid the foundation stone for a new Rs.5-crore Haj House near Karbala here. The project is expected to come up in a year to coincide with the completion of the work on the international airport in the City.

Speaking at the "Sange Buniad'' function of the Haj House foundation laying ceremony, the Chief Minister said the community's effort to build a centre for pilgrims would take a proper shape only when members came forward to take care of the pilgrims in transit. The work on the other Haj House, coming up at Jodhpur, was already in progress, he noted.

The function was addressed by the AICC general secretary, Nawal Kishore Sharma, the State Ministers, Chogaram Bakolia, Choudhary Tayyab Hussain, Habibur Rehman, and the MPs, Imamudhin Ahmed and Abrar Ahmed. On the occasion Mr.Imamudhin Ahmed and Mr. Sharma promised Rs.10 lakhs each and Dr.Abrar Ahmed Rs.25 lakhs as contribution from their respective MPs and MLA's funds to the project.

Mr.Gehlot said he wanted to see the Haj House near the newly coming up international airport as it would be convenient for pilgrims. However, considering the wishes of the Muslim community, the Government alloted the land at Karbala near the Jal Mahal project.

Mr.Gehlot on the occasion appealed to the Muslim community to come forward to educate children. In his presidential address, Mr.Sharma hailed the Haj House project as a major initiative towards solving a long- pending problem of Muslim pilgrims in the State. He appreciated the Chief Minister for setting up a "Madrassa Board'' for the first time in the State.

The chairman of the Rajasthan Haj Committee, Salim Kagazi, informed that the number of those going for Haj had gone up from 525 to 2325 at present.
