Punjab session from Sept. 24, Congress issues whip

CHANDIGARH SEPT. 22. The Punjab Vidhan Sabha session commencing on September 24 is likely to be stormy with main opposition all set to corner the Congress Government of Amarinder Singh on issues, including ``rise'' in corruption, ``resentment'' among students on fee hike and ``political vendetta'' against opponents.

``The Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal) will bring adjournment motions on corruption, students unrest and political vendetta against the party activists,'' party legislator Manpreet Singh Badal, who is relative of the former chief minister, Parkash Singh Badal, said here.

He alleged that no development was taking place in the State even though the Congress Government was into its second budget.

Capt. Amarinder Singh has maintained that the session will give the Government an opportunity to highlight its achievements.

Meanwhile, the Punjab Congress legislature party chief whip, Rana Gurmit Singh Sodhi, has issued a whip to party MLAs to remain present in the House during it's sittings on September 24 and 25 till the business of the House is over.

The SAD (Badal) will hold a meeting of the party here tomorrow to decide whether a no-confidence motion should be brought against the Congress Government, Mr. Badal said.

He, however, added: ``It is not wise to do such an exercise if you are not in numbers.''

In the House of 117, the strength of the Congress is 64, SAD 41 and it's ally BJP three and there are nine independents.
