By Our Staff Reporter

BANGALORE Sept. 22. The city police have arrested four persons on charges of murdering a lorry driver and a cleaner in Kolar district last month.

The lorry driver, Subramani, and the cleaner, Lakshmaiah, were found murdered near the bypass in Bethmangala taluk of Kolar district on August 18 and the lorry, with goods worth Rs. four lakh, was stolen. As this had created a scare among road users, police formed several teams to investigate the case and arrest the guilty.

The team from Bangalore East Police Division, drawn mainly from Frazer Town and Shivajinagar police stations, on Sunday, arrested Ravi Kumar, alias Lorry Driver Ravi (28) of Kolar, Babu Jan, alias Bakery Babu (32) of Mulbagal, Ravi, alias Auto Ravi (25) of Kolar and Muninarayana (25) of Borandahalli of Kolar district. The accused reportedly told the police that they waited at the check post near Bethamangala on the morning of August 18 and had boarded the lorry, seeking a ride to Kolar. After travelling for 25 km., they allegedly assaulted the lorry driver and cleaner with weapons. They dumped the bodies near a trench and drove away with the goods. The accused abandoned the lorry and stole the consignment of plastic buttons, some of which they sold in Bangalore. About five tonnes of plastic buttons were recovered from the accused.

The arrested have been remanded in police custody. Police said Ravi was a lorry driver. Babu Jan was running a bakery and he had taken to crime as he had incurred huge losses in business.

650 cassettes seized: The Nandini Layout police on Sunday arrested Mohammad Jabbu (28) of Siddapura and seized 650 video cassettes of sex films, worth Rs. two lakh from him. During investigations, Jabbu reportedly confessed that he and his two associates recorded these cassettes in Hosur, Tamil Nadu, and sold them in Bangalore and other places.
