Crackdown planned on encroachers

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM Sept. 22. The City Corporation is preparing for a crackdown on unauthorised buildings and encroachments on road puramboke land. The local body today issued a stern directive calling for the demolition of all unauthorised constructions in the city within a week.

An official press release quoting the Corporation Secretary said many of the bunks, wayside shops and extensions, which were removed in previous operations, were found to be back in business. It said many of these structures were posing a problem for road and pedestrian traffic.

The release said that the Corporation would be forced to demolish all the illegal structures if they were not removed within a week. It warned that the owners would be prosecuted if they failed to heed the direction.
