Letters to the Editor
Sir, Refer to the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister, Mulayam Singh Yadav's statement that his party will not act against Amarmani Tripathi, arrested in connection with the murder of poetess Madhumita ( Sept. 23 ). Mr. Yadav should not extend Mr. Tripathi any undue favour just because he defected from the BSP to the SP and voted for him during the no-confidence motion.
S. A. Srinivasa Sarma,
* * * Sir, Mr. Yadav's statement is reprehensible and a setback to decriminalisation of politics. Mr. Tripathi has cleverly remained with the party in power despite the regime change in the State only to get protection. People like him should be marginalised.
M.K.B. Nambiar,
* * * Sir, Many believe that power and money will protect them from the law. Their confidence is not entirely misplaced. It is high time laws were made stringent to ensure that not only are the guilty punished but the verdict is also given quickly.
S. Bhaktavatsalam
* * * Sir, Can we assume that we have bred a class of citizens which is above the law?
A. Umakantha Sarma,
