Blinding incidents again in Bihar

By Our Staff Correspondent

PATNA SEPT. 23. Yet another blinding incident has come to light in the State where, coincidentally, "Gangajal" (an euphemism for acid, coined during the infamous Bhagalpur blinding incident) has been used. This time round, the victim, Jatadhri Yadav, an alleged ox thief, told the Banka Superintendent of Police that he was beaten up and "Gangajal" poured into his eyes.

His tormentors, however, admitted him to hospital where he got his sight back. The SP has ordered an enquiry and action against those named by the victim. In another case, 16-year-old Dhanvir Yadav from Khagaria district, accused of stealing a bicycle, was thrashed by a mob which gouged out one of his eyes while damaging the other badly.

Free air ticket, treatment

UNI reports:

Yadav has been offered free air tickets to travel to Bangalore for treatment. The Civil Aviation Minister, Rajiv Pratap Rudy, has agreed to provide three to and fro air tickets to Dhanvir, one attendant and a family member.
