Grasim launches `Freedom' fabrics

By Our Staff Correpondent

CHENNAI SEPT. 23. Grasim Suiting, part of the Aditya Birla Group, is planning to outsource fabrics from China, Korea and Italy, according to S. Krishnamoorthy, Executive President (Fabrics and Apparels).

This would reduce its capital expenditure to a large extent said Mr. Krishnamoorthy.

The chief of the suiting division said over a period the company would outsource 5-10 per cent of the total fabric it was marketing.

The company was focussing on research and development. It had so far spent Rs. 25-30 crores on the fabric R & D centre.

At present, the company was concentrating only on men's suiting. It was doing a survey for women's wear. However, the company is in the women's wear through its garment segment under the brand name `Allen Solly'.

Today, Grasim launched a new range of fabrics under the brand name `Freedom' in Chennai. Mr. Krishnamoorthy said the fabric was a blend of polyester and viscose and had a different texture, which imparted a smooth and comfortable feel.
