Nine killed in collision

HAVERI SEPT. 23. Nine persons died on the spot and more than 20 were injured in a collision between a lorry and a Tempo on the outskirts of Haveri on Tuesday.

The lorry was bound for Bangalore and the Tempo to Savanur when the accident occurred near Devagiri Cross in the Haveri-Shiggaon section of the Bangalore-Pune National Highway. The dead and injured were travelling in the Tempo.

A one-year-old child had a miraculous escape while its mother died in the accident, according to reports. The condition of five of the injured is said to be critical.
