COLOMBO. Sept. 23. Curfew has been imposed for the fourth consecutive night in the capital of the Maldives, Male, which is limping back to normality after rioting over the weekend. With unrest continuing in the Maafusi island prison, where the trouble started after a prisoner was reportedly killed by guards on Friday night, the President, Maumoon Abdul Gayoom, has given temporary charge of the attol-nation's main jail to the Construction Minister, Umar Zahir, sources in Male told The Hindu tonight. Mr. Zahir has reportedly visited the prison after assuming charge. The prisoners are reportedly protesting demanding better treatment. Night curfew has been imposed from midnight to 4.30 a.m., sources said.A five-member Presidential inquiry commission has also been appointed to investigate the killing of a prisoner, allegedly by a policeman inside the Maafushi prison on Friday night. Two other prisoners died of gunshot wounds. A total of 18 persons, including a member of the National Security Service were reportedly injured in the prison disturbances. In the riots that followed Friday's incident, four police stations and the elections office were burnt.
